How do Kintex tapes work?

Kinesiology tapes are often used for sports injuries or in physiotherapy. They are used to support and stabilize muscles, fascia, ligaments or joints. The interaction between body and mind, uncovering energy flows, as well as releasing blockages should be supported by the use of kinesiology tapes.
Discovered and developed in Japan in the 1970s, Kinesiology Tape is now indispensable in competitive sports, but also in the hobby and amateur sector. The tape made of cotton is comfortable to wear and very versatile in its applications.

On the underside of the tape, the adhesive is applied in a wavy S-structure, which makes the tape particularly adaptable and stretchable. This allows the tape to adapt optimally to the structures of the human body and lays like a second layer of skin over the muscles and joints.

Allergic reactions rarely occur when using the tape, these are usually caused by current medication or intensified by simultaneous alcohol or nicotine consumption.
Also the use of skin and day creams, as well as a very dry skin, can lead to an allergic reaction.

Note

  • Never use the tape on open wounds or as a bandage.
  • In case of an allergic reaction, itching, tingling of the skin or throbbing under the tape, remove the tape immediately.

In case of doubt, please consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Only a few minutes after the application of the tape, it is no longer perceived as disturbing and therefore there is no restriction of activities due to the tape bandage.

What do I have to pay special attention to when taping?

Below you will find a checklist with the most important points that you should consider when taping.

Checklist for taping   

  • Remove any hair from the area to be taped
  • Remove dirt and grease from the skin
  • Avoid body lotion or body oils on the area to be taped
  • Round off the corners of the tape
  • Do not touch the adhesive surface during the taping process
  • Apply the tape about 2-3 hours before sporting activities
  • Carefully apply the finished tape
  • Put on clothes carefully
  • Gently blow dry wet tape
  • Remove with water or cooking oil

Application

When applying the tape, it is essential not to touch the adhesive surface. The adhesive reacts to heat and is activated by it.
Due to the stretching of the tape strip, the tape tears in the middle and the backing paper comes off. Now the tape can be applied without touching the adhesive surface.

From what age can I use the tape?

There are no age restrictions for the use of tape.
Even children and babies can be treated with the help of tapes.
It is important that the tape is applied professionally and expertly.
We recommend that the tape be applied by an expert (physiotherapist/doctor).

What do the colors mean?

Basically, the selection of colors plays a rather subordinate role in taping on the human body, even if the colors can be used supportively for therapy.

According to kinesiology color theory, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the colors red and pink are considered activating, blue and green are cooling, black and dark blue are strengthening and beige and yellow are neutral. Many physical therapists leave the choice of tape color up to their patient.

The reason for this is simple: the patient should feel comfortable with the tape and not find it disturbing.

What should I consider before and after taping?

To ensure that your taping system lasts permanently and does not have to be constantly renewed, it is worthwhile to observe the following points.

Before taping

  • Remove dirt and grease from the skin
  • Remove any hair from the area to be taped
  • Avoid body lotion or body oils on the area to be taped
  • Always round off the corners of the tape
  • Do not touch the adhesive surface of the tape during application
  • Apply the tape approx. 2-3 hours before sporting activities

After taping

  • Carefully apply the finished tape
  • Carefully put on clothes
  • Gently blow dry wet tape
  • When removing the tape, use water or cooking oil
  • Remove any adhesive residue with water or our Cleanpads

If you follow all these points, nothing will stand in the way of your next tape installation.

Can I shower and swim with Kintex Tape?

Of course, with the tape on, you can continue to pursue your hobby or get rid of sweat in the shower.

Swimming, bathing, showering or doing sports is possible without any problems with the bandage. The breathable material of the tape allows sweating and allows the skin underneath to breathe.
Already a few minutes after applying the tape, it is no longer perceived as annoying and thus there is no restriction of activities by the tape bandage.

Can I use the tape during pregnancy?

Kinesiology tapes can also be used during pregnancy.
Thus, tape application can be used to support the overstretched abdominal muscles or in the area of the back. The treatment with kinesiology tapes is drug-free and skin irritations are very rare.

What are Kintex Cross Tapes?

Cross Tapes are often applied to pain points or so-called trigger points in acupuncture or physiotherapy. The grid patches are intended to release existing blockages and pain*. The tapes have a grid shape and are electrostatically charged when they are removed from the backing paper.

After applying the tape to the respective treatment point, the top layer of skin is slightly lifted, which is supposed to release existing blockages and improve blood and fluid flow*.

The tapes are available in different colors and sizes.

As a therapist, doctor or non-medical practitioner you get a permanent discount of 10% on the entire product range.
